The Miami Managua Lions Club (“MMLC”) is part of Lions Clubs International — the world’s largest service organization. It was founded by Melvin Jones on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, United States of America. And it has about 1.4 million members worldwide, spread across around 49,000 clubs. Our motto is, “We Serve.”
We unite volunteers in South Florida to deliver humanitarian assistance, promote dignity, and create lasting impact in the communities we serve. Our Club, MMLC, was founded on October 22, 1984, by Nicaraguan businessmen and exiles. And of course, our mission is the same: to serve the community. So, over the years, through its initiatives, MMLC has positively affected the lives of over 100,000 individuals. Our initiatives to help our community and our compatriots in Nicaragua and other places include, among other things, donating containers of medical supplies, computers, wheelchairs, toys, and clothing. We also coordinate with other organizations to provide of cataract surgery and cornea transplants. We are also initiating annual fund-raising campaigns to support providing prosthetics to needy children. We also promote and participate in community cultural events.
